Hello, my name is Kyoshi Liz Mahler. In 1987 I made the decision to move to the Central Coast and open my martial arts school, something I have never regretted. Now, I could not contemplate bringing up my children in the big city.
Like you, I read the papers and watch the news and I am acutely aware of the destructive influences in our society and that our children will require a strong self esteem and resilience to resist these influences and lead happy successful lives.
My children are all teenagers now and I know that their martial arts training has given them invaluable life skills. Initially, when they were primary school age the skills they learnt at the karate school followed through into the classroom and at home. Skills like improved focus, self control, respect and courtesy and a cautious awareness to keep them safe. Now in their adolescence, as they approach adulthood, their confidence, strong self esteem, self discipline and determination they gained from their training, will help guard them from forces of negative peer pressure, drugs and other dangers.
Can we do the same for your child? Let me answer with a resounding “yes, we can”.
I share your desire for our children to have self-discipline and to experience a sense of accomplishment in making the most of their unique gifts.
I want them to be resilient and fast learners in times of rapid change, and to have a healthy, happy and fulfilled life.
I believe every child is important and special and deserving of the best opportunities we can provide for them.
I believe, more than any other sport, martial arts gives your child the chance to explore his innate powers. He’ll marvel (as you will) as he increases in strength, flexibility endurance, balance and harmony. Yet this is only the start.
In fact, his physical skills act as a foundation for something much more important, the development of his value skills, mental and spiritual. And not cut off from his physical skills, but intimately connected – even bonded—to them.
Courage. Your child finds the courage to move outside of his comfort zone. He wills himself to take on more difficult karate moves and skills. He becomes no longer afraid of being afraid.
As he does so, he learns that whatever he sows, so he reaps. He learns to blame no one, but himself. He suddenly sees his life as a constant, never-ending journey of life-giving improvement.
In short, with a deep breath, he refuses to become a victim of fate. He puts an arm lock on his own destiny.
Staying power. Your child finds joy in improving her physical stamina. She can walk farther, run longer, practice skills until she gets them right.
In turn, she learns not to give up. She sticks things out. With the help of her teachers, she strives harder, longer to reach her goals. Even if she fails she perseveres. She won’t let her self doubts get in the way of finding ultimate solutions.
As the man said, “Where performance is measured, performance improves.” Yet, your child has to first accept where he stands now. That means measuring current strengths. Above all, he learns that to succeed, he can’t fool anyone, especially himself.
This results in a keener focus. He learns to make eye contact with his teacher (and not just in karate.) He pays greater attention to what each teacher says. He knows and accepts where he stands.
Here are just three of the powerful, energizing values your child will get from studying with BBMA
- Powerful Self Control. She’ll refuse to give in to negative peer pressure. She’ll have deeper respect for rules.
- Improved Focus. She’ll learn what’s needed, along with the skill to “zero in” on critical tasks at hand. Normal, yet time-wasting, childhood distractions won’t get in her way.
- Fearless Self Confidence. Watch as your child finds the courage to open any door life has to offer.
- Towering Role-Model Teachers. As you might guess, all of this couldn’t have happened unless I had top shelf instructors. To make sure I have the very best, each of them have years of experience in my system and have been thoroughly trained in teaching skills. My fulltime staff dedicate 6 hrs per week each to ongoing instructor training under me.
Today, they are all martial arts experts – advanced Black Belts in fact. Many have won awards for their teaching and physical skills.
Now, I still know what you’re thinking: How can I know for sure a martial arts program will work for my child? Will learning to ‘kick, block, and punch’ really work for her? I’ve made it very easy for you to find out by offering our FREE Introductory Program.
FREE Introductory Program:
This includes a tour of our fulltime karate school; a student – parent conference to meet one on one to discuss your child’s needs and your child’s progress, we will educate you regarding our program and help you understand the developmental process for your child; and a free private lesson.
All this is FREE at the Karate School (with no strings attached.) See for yourself if, in fact, I can give your child the powerful benefits promised.
During the lesson your BBMA instructor will have an opportunity to build rapport with your child and you will have an opportunity to answer any and all questions that you may have about our program.
Here’s how it works: Watch with your own eyes as your child gets coached by a top karate teacher. . .
Class one (in the free introductory program) Your child begins by learning the profound influence of the martial arts “bow.” Then watch as he:
- Warms to the idea of emotional respect, for both himself and others.
- Gains power from the ability to be confident yet respectful.”
- Connects with the “Three Skills of Listening.”
- Then smile as you hear him recite the Kids Karate Promise,
“I promise never to use karate to show off, hurt or scare others, I will always show self control and respect, I will only use my skills to defend myself and to improve my life, I’m on a quest to do my best.”
Whatever you do, I urge you to register today. Believe me, it could be the most important thing you do.
BUT BE WARNED. Remember, I’m inviting you to check out one of the most successful martial arts programs in the country!. Call as soon as possible. Our Free Introductory Program is by appointment only.
Don’t worry! It is consistently stressed to all students that karate skills require them never to be abusive or offensive and are only for use defensively. After a short period of time students become markedly less aggressive while maintaining confidence and high personal self esteem.
All this talk of values may have mislead you. Be assured, I do teach karate as everyone likes to think of it. Your child will end up knowing how to protect herself. She’ll know how to avoid danger, how to use conflict resolution techniques. Physical and Mental Skills that could one day save her life.
“I just wanted to let you know how relieved and grateful we are to BBMA for the skills that our daughter has got from your program. I am writing this to you in the hope that it will help other parents make this vital decision to give their children the gift of martial arts lessons. Our 10 yr old daughter was approached when walking home from school. The man was in a car and pulled up beside her. Without hesitation A_____ turned and walked quickly in the other direction towards the service station. This was a lesson you had taught only a few weeks before, I remember sitting at the back of the class listening to you explaining “if you think someone is following you in a car, turn and run the other way - it is harder to turn the car around quickly to catch up and if they do turn you know to get help quickly”. Little did I know that this would shortly be a reality for A____. We were so proud of her level headedness and courage to handle this situation. Without wanting to sound too dramatic we shudder at how this could have been without this lesson, thank you and thank you again.
Mother (name withheld)
I look forward to seeing you in our school and getting your child started on their martial arts journey.
